These puppets were made by primary school children from the Five Islands School on the Isles of Scilly, the children of P1-7 at Fettercairn School, Aberdeenshire, the Nursery Children and the Student Environment Group from St Marys College Blackburn. Henry Nicholls : The Way of the Panda

Here's a message from author Henry Nicholls who made the puppet shown in the pictures above...

"In my book The Way of the Panda, I argue that there are two types of panda: the real and the virtual. We still know next-to nothing about the real, wild panda and the chances of seeing one are vanishingly small. The virtual panda, by contrast, is everywhere, usually a comical abstraction used to sell everything from fizzy drinks to electronic goods to cigarettes. No real pandas were harmed in the making of this photograph."

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Draw the body shape of an animal on a piece of card 2. Cut out the body and add glue 3. Lay the body on top of fabric 4. Cut around the body 5. Add eyes, legs and wings 6. Sellotape a stick to the back of the body 7. Hold your puppet out and move it around 8. Take a close-up photo of your puppet on plain background.
