School Meters

The meters on this page show the amount of electricity the Five Islands School on the Isles of Scilly is using in real-time. At this geographic scale, the weather, whether or not it is term-time and the days of the week tends to have the biggest effects on demand.

Animal Earth Summit

The primary school children on the Isles of Scilly will be staging a puppet-based "Animal Earth Summit" during the Isles of Scilly Earth Summit. The children will be encouraged to express why they think it is worth protecting the environment, via their animal puppets.

Real-time demand

This meter compares the amount of electricity being used by the staff and students at the Five Islands School right now (green needle) and at same time yesterday (red needle). 

In the winter, the school uses about 30 kilowatts of electricity at any one moment in time which is the same as leaving about 30 kettles switched on.

In summer, when fewer lights are needed this figure drops to about 20 kilowatts.

This meter compares the total amount of electricity that everyone in the main building at Five Islands School has used since midnight this morning, with the equivalent period yesterday.
