At the Five Islands School on the Isles of Scilly the children run their own environmental club, called The Green Team, which provides an excellent sources of ideas and a rallying point for passion and enthusiasm.
E-Day has been very impressed by the way the pupils at the Five Islands School have succeeded in turning their ideas into reality and hopes that some of you out there might be tempted to make use of the tips and advice the Five Islands School's Green Team have put together for you below.

Things you can do!
1. Plant Trees
2. Give presentations and assemblies about green issues and what you are doing
3. Have a slot in your school newsletter with easy advice on how to save energy or be greener
4. Work with local wildlife and environmental groups
5. Label the bins at school clearly to encourage recycling
6. Put up signs around school asking people to turn off lights and close windows
7. Set an example…..walk/cycle to school, recycle, eat local food
8. Encourage your school to be greener, use environmentally friendly cleaning products, recycle, cook with local produce, use renewable energy…..etc.
How to set up a Green Team
1. Have a core group of students who really want to make a difference
2. Try and get a representative from each year group to join
3. Find a member of staff who will support you
4. Advertise your group at school
5. Design a group logo and get t-shirts made so people know who you are and can ask advice
6. Get informed about local and planet environment issues
7. Have a notice board to keep people informed about what you do and ask for help
8. Try to get a budget and apply for grants.
9. Ask if your work as a member of the Green Team can be integrated in other subjects like product design or technology.
